What is the Section 8 Program?
The Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program is a HUD funded program that allows the Housing Authority to directly subsidize the monthly rent payments for very low income families.
Linn-Benton Housing Authority administers two types of Section 8 Housing assistance programs: Housing Choice Vouchers and Moderate Rehabiliation.
Housing Choice Vouchers
In this Housing and Urban Development (HUD) program, eligible families find their own rental units in the existing housing market. Families pay a portion of the rent and utilities, generally equal to 40% of their adjusted monthly income. The Housing Authority pays the landlord the balance of the rents on behalf of the families.
Section 8 Moderate Rehabilitation Program
The Housing Authority provides a rent subsidy guarantee to units that have been approved and rehabilitated in accordance with Housing and Urban Development (HUD) regulations. Tenants residing in these units pay 30% of their monthly income for rent and utilities. Under this program, the Housing Authority provides subsidies for units in a former hotel, The Julian, in Corvallis that have been extensively remodeled into studio and one-bedroom units.
